FCI Ophthalmics Aesthetic — Lifting Soft Tissue with Cosmetic, Mid-Face Sutures

Silhouette cosmetic mid-face sutures are an entirely new means of lifting soft facial tissue. These mid-face sutures are uniquely designed to allow for tissue growth inside and around flexible, absorbable, hollow cones, creating a much stronger anchoring mechanism when compared to barbed sutures.

Silhouette Mid-Face Sutures

Silhouette mid-face sutures are different than barbed sutures in a number of important ways. Because barbed sutures incorporate cuts made in the shaft of conventional sutures, the thread strength is compromised. As a highly effective alternative, Silhouette mid-face sutures utilize clear, flexible, absorbable cones. When the cones are absorbed, tissue growth around the small knots allows for tissue suspension.

Mid-Face Sutures — Step-by-Step Procedure

Physicians are lifting soft tissue in an entirely new way with the Silhouette cosmetic mid-face suture.

Insertion

Using an attached 8" x 20" gauge straight needle, Silhouette cosmetic mid-face sutures are inserted through a small incision. This incision is made in the temporal area and the suture goes through the superficial subcutaneous tissue before exiting in the sub-malar/peri-oral area.

Suspension

Silhouette cosmetic mid-face sutures are deployed in the superficial fibro-adipose tissue (the lower temporal, malar, and peri-oral area of the face). The sutures are placed slightly parallel to each other. However, they diverge from each other just enough to provide a broader base at the in the lower face, decreasing separation as the temporal area is approached.

Anchoring and Suspension

The cosmetic sutures are pulled though the temporal area, allowing the cones to engage the fibroreticular fibers of the subcutaneous facial tissue. Further traction produces mobilization, displacement, and lifting of soft tissue to the desired location.

Fixation

Silhouette cosmetic sutures are fixed in pairs to deep tempora fascia, which has been reinforced with a non-absorbable mesh at the level of the temporal incision, using a pre-loaded half-curved non-cutting needle.
