Scleral Buckling Components
Scleral buckling is the most frequently performed procedure for repairing retinal detachment. The following components help physicians effectively perform the surgery. About Scleral Buckling
Scleral buckling is an effective means of closing breaks, bringing two layers of the retina back together, and ridding the eye of fluid under the retina. During the scleral buckling procedure, the buckle is sewn to the outer layer of the eye, keeping it securely in place. The buckle is usually permanently attached. This pushes — or "buckles" — the sclera toward the middle of the eye, which relieves the traction on the retina and allows the retinal tear to settle and reheal against the wall of the eye.
