OSMED Tissue Expanders — Overview

OSMED self-inflating tissue expanders are made of a specially developed hydrogel that uses the osmotic principle to gain volume. These implants are indicated for the facilitation of normal growth of orbital soft tissues and bones to achieve proximate facial symmetry for the treatment of clinical anophthalmos and congenital microphthalmos, including postenucleation socket syndrome.

After implantation, OSMED hydrogel implants start to absorb body fluid and grow consistently to a predefined form and volume. The increased volume of the implant – between 6 to 12 fold, depending on the product type – leads to an increase of soft tissue.

Hemisphere (socket expander)

For the treatment of clinical anopthalmia, congenital microphthalmia and post-enucleation implantation to achieve proximate facial symmetry.

Sphere (orbita expander)

Bioceramic Orbital Implants — Overview

With an improved structure for vascularization and integration that is biocompatible, bioinert, nontoxic, and nonallergenic, FCI bioceramic orbital implants are stable, easily handled, and less sticky than other alternatives.

Mesh-Wrapped Bioceramic Orbital Implants

Mesh-wrapped bioceramic orbital implants from FCI are made of porous, strong, non-brittle biomaterial alumina. The vinyl mesh wrapping incorporated in this type of orbital implant allows the muscles to be sutured directly to the implant. Furthermore, the extensive pore system of FCI mesh-wrapped implants enhances fibrovascular ingrowth, which prevents the implant from migrating, allows the secure attachment of extraocular muscles, and improves implant motility.

Bioceramic Orbital Implants

Bioceramic orbital implants from FCI Ophthalmics provide physicians with an effective means for facilitating enucleation and evisceration procedures.
