Bioceramic Orbital Implant
FCI Ophthalmics has received the FDA approval to market in the United States its Bioceramic Orbital Implant for use in enucleation and evisceration procedures. The implant is made of the porous, strong, non-brittle biomaterial alumina (Al2 03), and features highly uniform interconnected pores of approximately 500mm in size.
The extensive pore system enhances fibrovascular ingrowth which keeps the implant from migrating and allows the secure attachment of extraocular muscles, thereby improving implant motility.
The implant can be coupled directly to the prosthesis through FCI's unique hydroxyapatite-coated titanium peg & sleeve system. This allows a wide range of prosthetic movements in complete synchrony with the natural eye.
Available in 7 sizes from 12-22 mm diameters, the Bioceramic Orbital Implant is lightweight (1/2 the weight of the HA) and easy to insert (less sticky).

PVP Self-Threading Monoka available from FCI Ophthalmics
FCI Ophthalmics announces the PVP Self-Threading Monoka to the lacrimal product line. This system is newly coated with a thin Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) coating that makes the surface slick as glass to enhance tear drainage and to prevent debris from collecting on the surface.
One end of the silicone tubing is attached to the prolene thread-guide (Ritleng System) reducing time and trauma in lacrimal duct intubation. This means there is no metal probe to pull out of the nasal cavity and this is particularly important when operating on infants and children. The other end contains a Punctum plug to anchor the system into place making knots and sutures un-necessary. The collarette (which sits flush on the eyelid margin) is wide to prevent migration of the plug inside the canaliculus.
The PVP Self-Threading Monoka are supplied sterile either one or three to a box.
This product does require the use of a plug inserter, Ritleng Hook & Ritleng Probe.

PVP Ritleng Bicanalicular System provides new features to simplify lacrimal intubation
FCI Ophthalmics announces the Ritleng Bicanalicular Lacrimal Intubation set. The Ritleng system employs a guide wire approach to lacrimal intubation. A polypropylene thread attached to the silicone tubing is guided into the lacrimal duct using a specially designed grooved probe. Once the thread is in place, forceps are used to grasp and pull it from the nose. The thread is then used as a leader to pull the silicone tubing. The procedure is atraumatic and bloodless making it particularly attractive for use in children.
